South Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program for SLED

Scope of Services of SCLEAP

A. Full-time professional staff trained at a master's degree level or above, providing 24-hour/7-day per week statewide service for all SLED employees and their families.

B. Statewide cadre of volunteer chaplains.

C. Maintenance of a trained Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Peer Support Team consisting of state and local police officers, mental health professionals and chaplains.

D. Trained CISM/ Peer Support Team providing interagency support to other law enforcement agencies across South Carolina upon request.

E. Confidential system of care and referral for employees and their family members to therapeutic resources around the state.

Types of care:

  • Alcohol, drug and other addictions (LEO Program)
  • Mental health issues
  • Family and marital care
  • Parenting issues
  • Elder care consultation
  • Financial counsel and referral


F. System of prompt visitation and care of personnel who are sick and injured.

G. System of notification, in accordance with agency procedures, when an individual has been seriously injured or died during the course of employment.

H. Liaison between partner agencies, civic and religious leaders of the statewide community and other support organizations.

I. Support and assistance of Victim Advocacy Services and Community Relations Services already present within SLED.

J. Organization and facilitation of training in workplace violence awareness as well as workplace wellness, conflict and anger management.

K. Pursuit of regular training for staff and volunteers in those areas where SCLEAP provides services.
